all in one desktops
When upgrading a desktop’s memory should I put all the memory in one slot?
I am looking to upgrade the memory on my desktop computer. It already has 512mb of ram in one of its two ram slots. The computer can handle a maximum of 1 gig of memory. My question is if I should remove the existing ram, and buy 1 gig of ram to put all in one slot or should I just buy 512mb of ram and it just put it in the second slot which would create a total of 1 gig
It may be better and more cost effective to buy a single stick of 1G. If you buy an additional stick of 512 the speed of the RAM will be that of the old stick (assuming its a bit dated and slower speed). Without knowing what system specs you are talking about it makes it a judgement call. Lookat price/speed ratio available to you. There was a time I would recommend splitting RAM between the slots but that was back in the days when memory failed more frequently. That way you would only be dropped to 1/2 RAM but still able to use the PC.
