How to compare mobile phone processors to computer microprocessors?
What is a good benchmark to compare smart phone microprocessor chips to computer microprocessors? Specifically, chess nodes per second. I’m trying to compare apples to apples for chess playing software on both PCs and mobile phones.
Let me answer my own question. I figured out, using logic too complex to include here, that a Qualcomm SnapDragon or Apple iPhone A4/A5 chip is roughly equal, as of this year 2011, to a old early 2000 Pentium IV PC chip–at best. Probably more like a Pentium II actually. In a few years no doubt mobile phone chips will be faster than a Pentium IV but that’s the state of the art for now.
GHz ( Giga Hertz ) or MHz ( Mega Hertz )
