Why won’t the video files on my Sony DCR-SR45 video camera transfer sound when moved to the computer?
I have followed the instructions for uploading the videos from the video camera to the computer. I have transferred the files in to a new folder on my desktop and can review all of the movies, but no sound is coming through. If I watch the videos on the video camera I can clearly hear the sound. I thought that maybe I needed an update from sony for the drivers and such, but that did nothing. And yes, my speakers are on and turned up.Any suggestions?
The audio IS transferring with the video.
Your media player cannot handle the format. You did not tell us what computer you are using…
You have some options…
If all you want to do is play back the video, VLC player is very useful.
If you want to edit, use StreamClip to convert the files to a format the video editor can use… MovieMaker likes .avi and .wmv; iMovie likes .mov and MP4 (they both can use other formats, these are just more “native” to them).
The drivers you updates are for USB stuff – and unrelated to whether your media player has an appropriate Codec. And that brings us to the other option – and that is, install the right codec… Personally, I like the VLC player interface, and it comes with the codecs it needs…
