My new Hard Drive not working?
Hi,
I brought a new hard drive for my laptop as my mate put my laptop on top of a box with car speakers in and the magnets have wiped it clean.
I did have a Fujitsu MHV2100BH PL 2.5 SATA before and now have a Toshiba MK1652GSX 2.5 SATA but the new one has another set of pins but no where to plug them into, does this matter as my laptop cannot detected my new hard drive when trying to install Windows XP?
Any help would be great
Need any more info let me know!
the new one is definitly a SATA drive and it has 3 connections two of them plug in the other one isnt plugged into anything. I got told any SATA drive will fit into this laptop
All I have done is connected it to the laptop and tried to run the Windows XP reinstallation CD. But when I come to install it, it says setup cannot find any hard drives. I got the new HDD off EBay.
Call the vender from which you purchased the drive. If it is a serial ATA that you are replacing the connection should be the same. There is a choice of connectors on the new SATA drives so I wouldn’t be concerned about having bought the wrong drive. Did you configure and partition the new drive? That is an OK drive. If you got it from PC Connection, CompUPlus.com, or another reliable vender their customer service techs should be able to help you out.
