What causes the mouse to jump around by itself on a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop?

I’ll be typing and next thing I know I’m typing three lines back or who knows where. Very annoying. It’s a Fujitsu Lifebook 3010 and it gets hot pretty quick even with the fan under it, could that be the reason?
